Towards the end of 2024, Rhodes University student Bridget Mtetwa, a Pharmacy Masters student, achieved a significant milestone at the 2024 EDHE Entrepreneurship Intervarsity Competition. Bridget secured 2nd place in the Social Impact category, earning national recognition for her innovative business, Bridget’s Learning Hub.

Her enterprise specialises in online tutoring and integrates a strong social impact programme. Through collaboration with the Inkululeko Programme, Bridget’s Learning Hub provides essential academic support to Grade 7 learners at CM Vellem and Grade 12 learners at Nathaniel Nyaluza, ensuring access to quality tutoring for students who might otherwise be unable to afford such services.

Bridget’s exceptional accomplishments were recognised with R12,500 in prize money, which includes:

R10,000 for her 2nd-place finish in the national competition.

R2,500 for her 1st-place victory in the regional competition.

The EDHE Entrepreneurship Intervarsity Competition, an initiative by Universities South Africa (USAf) through its Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education programme (EDHE), is a prestigious platform celebrating and supporting student entrepreneurs across the country.

Bridget’s achievement reflects Rhodes University’s commitment to nurturing and supporting student entrepreneurship. In 2024, the University introduced two impactful initiatives: the Rhodes University Local Economic Development Programme (RU-LED) and the EDHE Student Women Economic Empowerment Programme (SWEEP).

In addition to introducing these programmes, the University revived the Enactus Rhodes University student society, engaging students in entrepreneurial projects that drive positive change. Rhodes University is also in the process of reviving the Hult Prize Foundation’s activities on campus, further solidifying its dedication to fostering entrepreneurial spirit among students.

These initiatives are coordinated through the Career Centre, a unit of the Division for 中国足彩网 and Development, in collaboration with the Rhodes Business School and the Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator.

Rhodes University congratulates Bridget on her remarkable success and extends its gratitude to everyone who supported her journey. This achievement underscores the University’s ongoing efforts to empower students and make a meaningful impact through entrepreneurship.

We look forward to what 2025 has in store for this remarkable student.
