Bequests

Leaving a legacy to education in one's Will is a tradition at the foundation of many of the world's great universities. It's also one of the easiest ways to give, since you spend nothing now. Only when you no longer need it is your money put to work to ensure the future of Rhodes University.

Including a bequest to an educational institute in your, Will is also a useful estate planning tool, as it can reduce the amount of tax payable on your death.

A bequest to the Rhodes Annual Fund can take one of many forms:

  • a straightforward cash amount
  • an item of value, e.g. real estate, motor vehicle, jewellery, artwork, antiques etc
  • a percentage of the total of your estate
  • the residue (or a percentage of the residue) - what is left over after all expenses, taxes and other bequests have been made
  • the proceeds of a life assurance policy

If you intend to leave a bequest to Rhodes, you are strongly advised to consult your financial planner, attorney, banker or other qualified advisor who will be able to help you decide on the best option, and who will ensure your wishes are correctly expressed and properly witnessed in your Will.
