Samuel Motimele, often referred to as "Uncle Sam" by his peers, is a passionate young professional with a keen interest in nature conservation, freshwater ecology and inland fisheries. He holds an MSc Degree in Zoology from the University of Limpopo and training in freshwater aquaculture from the Aquaculture Technology Demonstration Centre. With over two years of technical experience at a university level and over five years of laboratory experience, Samuel is a seasoned, modern day laboratory technician.
His roles and responsibilities towards achieving the department's academic objectives are:
- Coordinating and setting up for undergraduate practical classes and examination sessions.
- Responsible for the upkeep and updating of the Zoology specimen collections and storerooms.
- Assisting in the upkeep and servicing of lab equipment.
- Collection of specimens for undergraduate Zoology practical classes.
- Assisting undergraduate students with specimen collections during field trips.
- Responsible for the safe management and disposal of biological, toxic and hazardous wastes.
- Serving as the health and safety representative and a first aider.
