This training session provides an in-depth introduction to Scopus, the world’s largest abstract and indexing database of peer-reviewed literature. Known for its comprehensive and interdisciplinary coverage, Scopus offers access to a vast array of scholarly articles, conference papers, and patents across diverse academic fields.
Participants will learn how to:
- Navigate the Scopus platform – Understanding its user-friendly interface, search tools, and database structure.
- Conduct advanced searches – Using keywords, filters, subject areas, and citation information to find relevant literature efficiently.
- Analyse research trends – Utilising citation metrics, author profiles, and journal impact factors to evaluate the influence and reach of research outputs.
- Track citations and scholarly impact – Monitoring how articles are cited, identifying key authors and institutions, and exploring collaboration networks.
- Export and manage search results – Saving references, creating alerts, and integrating with reference management software like Mendeley.
- Explore interdisciplinary research – Accessing content spanning sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities, offering a broader perspective than many other databases.
By the end of the session, attendees will be empowered to harness Scopus as a powerful tool for comprehensive literature searches, research evaluation, and academic networking, thereby enhancing the quality and scope of their scholarly work.
